All About the Lincoln Veterans Memorial

With Memorial Day just around the corner, we wanted to highlight a very special community service group – the Lincoln Veterans Memorial Coalition (LVMC). The LVMC was one of our grant recipients this year and we couldn’t be prouder of their mission.

These groups came together for the purpose of building a Veterans’ Memorial in McBean Park to promote civic pride and to honor all Placer County Veterans – those still living and those who paid the ultimate price in serving our country.

About the Memorial

A design contest for the Veterans’ Memorial at McBean Park was held last year and Larry Yaggi won the contest. Larry is a Korean War veteran who will be 90 this year. Here is a photo rendering of the proposed Memorial: (click for larger image)

The plan is comprised of a central structure flanked left and right by 3-part panels providing space for 1,800 veteran’s plaques on the front and an additional 1,160 on the back – an example of which is shown below:

The central structure of the Memorial has three stainless steel panels. The top is a collage of images representing military activities of the various services while the lower panel shows images honoring a fallen soldier. (click for larger images)

The middle section has the following phrase:

To Honor all those who answered the call to serve and protect our Nation
and in memory of those who paid the ultimate price.
The Price of Freedom is never Free.

There will also be a pedestal in the lower left corner honoring the major donors who have helped make the Memorial possible.

Construction is scheduled to start on September 1st 2019, with a planned Dedication of the memorial on November 11, 2019, the 101st anniversary of Armistice Day, now called Veterans Day.
