A Message from the Lincoln Community Foundation’s Board President
Thank you for taking a few minutes to keep up to date on the Lincoln Community Foundation. It’s difficult to believe we have been meeting needs for ten years already.
Last year we led an effort that saw eight local non-profits work together on one day to raise over $30,000 on “The Big Day of Giving”. We’ll be doing this again in May.
We’ve partnered with grass roots organizations such as the Downtown Lincoln Association while they went through the process of organizing a formal structure and obtaining their own tax exempt status.
We support area programs such as Mud Run 4 Life, Lincoln 4th of July Celebration, Friends of McBean Park Stadium, and Lincoln Family Support Network with accounting services, donation processing, and general advice on mission oriented planning and execution.
Our purpose of promoting philanthropy and stewardship is actively considered in all we do. From our initial $200,000 funding by Lincoln City Council, investment returns, and a variety of fundraising events we’ve granted $281,000 to support 175 projects benefiting our citizens and we’ve grown our invested funds to nearly $500,000.
In just the last two years we received requests for 42 projects and groups seeking $99,000. We are pleased we were able to support 30 of those with a total of $36,000. The need you see is greater than the resources available.
Because we are focused on stewardship as well as philanthropy, donated funds go to our investment account. It is the returns on those invested funds that serve as our grant funding. This means a gift of $10,000 can meet the needs for a few projects once, or provide $500 each year for a lifetime and beyond.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to learn a bit about the Lincoln Community Foundation. Please consider us in your annual charitable support and planned giving. To learn more, please contact us directly.
